Innovative approach to integrationr

Meetings and contact between the people staying in the asylum seekers' centre and other local residents are central to Plan Einstein. A cup of coffee, a chat, following courses and doing activities together or organizing something together, such as gardening or learning the (English) language. In short, living, learning and working together. This positive way of integration enables asylum seekers to build on their future faster, from day one, no matter where that will be. Also, local residents feel more involved with the asylum seekers' centre in their neighbourhood.

Broad collaboration
Plan Einstein was started and further developed in 2016 by the municipality of Utrecht with the help of participants, (neighbourhood) residents, professionals, volunteers and organisations. To name a few: Social Impact Factory, Socius, Utrecht Center for International Entrepreneurship (part of Utrecht University), VluchtelingenWerk West and Midden-Nederland, Welkom in Utrecht, Volksuniversiteit Utrecht, COA, New Dutch Connections, Vrijwilligerscentrale Utrecht, de Voorkamer, Theater Stut and Radio Einstein.

Continuing to grow
The start-up phase was initiated by means of the European Urban Innovative Action program. Plan Einstein continues on this path. We share our experiences and knowledge with other organizations and (European) cities that want to inplement such an approach. Thus Plan Einstein continues to grow and focused on the future.
